prof. dr. Josep Tàpies

Doctor of Industrial Engineering, Polytechnic University of Catalunya (1987). Master of Business Administration, ESADE (1979). Dr. Josep Tàpies is holder of the Chair of Family-Owned Business at IESE and professor of strategic management. His areas of specialization include family business, strategic management, private equity, mergers and acquisitions and management buy-outs. He writes and teaches courses in management and governance of family business in the MBA program, and strategic management in several executive education programs. He also designs and teaches focused programs for families in business.

Dr. Tàpies has taught at business schools in Europe and Latin America such as AESE in Portugal, IDE in Ecuador, PAD University of Piura in Peru, ISE in Brazil, IAE in Argentina, ESE in Chile, INALDE in Colombia and others.

He has worked as a consultant for various companies, among them various familyowned, as well as for Spanish and international banks. He serves as independent director in several family-owned businesses. He is a member of the board the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA), and the Advisory Board of the International Center for Financial Research of IESE. Furthermore, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Consultants and Academics of Family Business. Prof. Tàpies has published numerous articles and books and chapters in books on family business, acquisitions, private equity and MBOs among other topics.
